Welcome to fall quarter! News and new opportunities to share

Hello public health students!

As you enjoy your first day of classes, connect with classmates and faculty, and plan for a terrific fall term, we want you to be aware of some cool opportunities both on campus and in the community.

Local volunteer opportunity: The Kittitas County Board of Health Advisory Committee (BOHAC) has a vacancy for a student member. Interested? Here’s a downloadable word doc application for the position. Deadline is NEXT Friday, Oct 2 at 5pm.

Campus event: Our second annual Evening with Public Health is planned for Thursday Oct 22 at 6pm. Last year’s event was a really neat networking opportunity for local and regional professionals to come together with students to talk about internships and organizations. Watch this space and listen to announcements in class – more details to follow!

CWU Campus Community Garden happenings:
Mural competition – Artistic? Know someone who is? We are seeking drawings around the theme “Spring in the community garden” for a mural panel. Entries are due at 5pm Friday Oct 10, and will be judged by the public at a local event later in the month. Click here to download the announcement and submission details!

Fall Open Garden Hour – Thursdays 4 to 5:30pm (until it’s just too cold). New to the garden? Perfect. Come on out to learn how to get involved, or to just take a look around. This Thursday we’ll be harvesting! Never heard of the CWU Campus Community Garden? Visit the garden blog here, or the student-run garden Facebook here!
